The Judo Gi, also known as a Japanese Judo Kimono is the traditional uniform worn by Judokas (practitioners of Judo) for practice and competition and was the first modern martial arts training uniform.
For Judo competitions, the Judogi must fit the athlete according to the IJF rules of Judo. These rules are in place to prevent a competitor from gaining an advantage by wearing an improperly sized Gi, usually smaller. A referee can disqualify a Judo competitor for their gi not adhering to the size requirements. To check your Judo Uniform, the referee may use an official measuring device called the Sokuteiki.
